What is a Prosthodontist?
One of the nine specialties recognized by the American Dental Association (ADA). Prosthodontics (pros-tho-don’-tics) is dedicated to the restoration and enhancement of teeth. Tooth loss creates both aesthetic and functional problems, resulting in unwanted changes to your facial appearance, as well as a detrimental effect on your chewing abiity, confidence and self-esteem. A Prosthodontist is dedicated to the highest standards of care in the restoration and replacement of teeth.
Because every mouth is unique, most Prosthodontic work must be performed by hand with painstaking detail. This work is performed by Dr. Silvaggio daily in his on-site laboratory. From color matching with existing teeth, to properly sculpting replacement teeth, the work of a prosthodontist requires great skill. This is why a Prosthodontist receives an additional 3 years of formal training at an accredited institution after completing dental school. Less than 1% of dentists in the United States are Prosthodontists.
After graduating from the University of Pennsylvania Dental School, Dr. Christian Silvaggio attended his Prosthodontics training at one of the top ranked accredited graduate programs in the United States, The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. After completing his training, he went on to become Board Certified and currently is the only private practice Board Certified Prosthodontist in Lancaster, PA. Dr. Silvaggio has the expertise and extensive training in both the aesthetic and procedural challenges of restorative, implant and cosmetic dentistry.
